Shampoo Recipes

Learn how to make your own shampoo recipes without toxic compounds and harsh chemicals that disrupt your hair’s natural pH and damage the hair shaft.
Ingredients needed
DIY shampoos are versatile and recipes may call for any number of different ingredients. Some of my favorites to use are: aloe vera, lavender essential oil, and dried soapwort root.
The misconception about shampoos
Many of us think that we need the lather and bubbles of traditional shampoos to have clean hair. This isn’t true! In order to achieve the sudsing effect, conventional shampoos rely on harsh chemicals such as detergents, synthetic materials and stabilizers.

Methylisothiazoline, sodium laureth, and sodium lauryl sulfate are common shampoo ingredients that have been linked to liver toxicity, hormonal imbalances and even cancer.

In addition, conventional shampoos disrupt your hair’s pH balance and weaken the hair shaft. Making the transition from a conventional shampoo to a DIY shampoo takes a little time as your hair’s pH and your scalp adjust, but the benefits are endless!

No Poo Shampoo Recipe

That’s it…I finally have gone NO POO! ‘No poo’ is a natural alternative to shampoo that does not use soap or other lathering ingredients. Commercial soap-based shampoos use harmful chemicals, like sodium lauryl sulfate, to achieve the rich lathering effect. While most of us have grown accustomed to the suds-effect, its not necessary for clean hair and it introduces harmful chemicals to our system. Additionally, soap strips the hair of its natural oils, which can lead to brittle, damaged strands. Which dangerous chemicals are lurking in conventional shampoos? Sodium lauryl sulfate is commonly added to shampoos (and even toothpaste) for…
