This whipped shea body butter recipe is great if you are out of beeswax. It can be done in your kitchen for less than 20 minutes.

Shea Butter comes from the nut of the African shea tree and  has many benefits for the skin and is naturally rich in Vitamins A, E, and F, as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins A and E help to soothe, hydrate, and balance the skin. They also provide skin collagen which assists with wrinkles and other signs of ageing. Vitamin F contains essential fatty acids, and helps protect and revitalize damaged skin and hair.

I’ve also used organic camellia seed oil which is light, not greasy, absorbs easily, has barely any scent but it is emollient, anti-aging, astringent. It is also very rich in oleic acid and vitamins A, B, D and E as well as Omega 3, 6 and 9

The last ingredients I have used is mango butter comes from the tropical mango tree and is cold-pressed from the seeds of the mango fruit. The benefits of mango butter are numerous but it is great to treats and moisturizes dry, ashy, sensitive and rough skin. Plus it is a natural source of vitamin A,C and E and it helps to protect against UV rays.

This body butter recipe is an intense moisturizer and is wonderful for revitalizing dull or dry skin on the body or even scalp.

Whipped Shea Body Butter Recipe

Body Butter Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Instructions

  • Put the shea and mango butter in a glass or metal bowl inside a pan filled with water on low heat so they starts melting slowly
  • once melted add the camelia seed oil and mix well.
  • Put in the freezer for 5 to 10 to 20 minutes until it has started to become a wax but is still soft.
  • Then take it out and start whipping with an electric whip (like a hand mixer you would use for egg white) on low speed.
  • Make sure you wear an apron and that the bowl is deep enough so the butter does not start flying around everywhere in the kitchen!
  • Begin whipping your mixture on low speed until it become foamy.
  • Once the mixture is foamy, increase the speed to high until they become whipped to the desired stage.
  • Add essential oils if desired at the end and whip for 1 min or less.
  • Your butter will have a very fluffy and light consistency, like a nice whipped cream!

  • Well I read the recipe wrong and used 12 tbsp of mango butter and 2 of Shea Anyway, it turned out really well and is great for a night time body moisturiser for my very dry skin. I used Neuroli essential oil and it smells divine.

  • Hi Eve, I made the whipped body butter.....is it possible to whip it up to much and it gets hard? Mine is not soft and fluffy anymore. Thank you

  • Hey,

I ordered stuff as a beginner and ordered “mango butter” and the other 2 ingredients to make body cream and received 2 types of Shea butter from the link. Is this an error? Just curious. Thanks for your time!!!

  • Hi Eve, thank you very much for all the wonderful info. I am so grateful that I found your website. I notice that you give the volume of the ingredients in your recipes. However, I like weighing because it is more accurate for me, and not so many utensils to wash afterwards. Do you perhaps have the mass vs volume ratios of the ingredients?

  • Hi Eve, Can you tell the percentage of shea butter, mango butter and organic camelia seed oil for this recipe. I dont want to yield 10 oz but lesser

  • Hi Eve, this recipe looks perfect!!! I am wondering if you have any body butter, foot cream, or healing salve recipes made with cocoa butter. My skin loves cocoa butter but when I tried a recipe it was too hard and turned gritty.

  • Hi Eve!
I noticed that in your recipes it mentions to put body butter in a glass container. Can plastic containers be used as well?

    • yes, but by using plastic you may end up having BPA leaching into your body butter which is not safe.
Glass is a much better option, can be reused over and over and also will not leak if you use essential oils.

  • Hi eve.can i substitute rosehip oil or rose geranium oil or chamomile oil for camelia seed oil?if so which one of them works best for me as i have oily sensitive skin?and if it changes the texture can u plz tell me what should i do after the texture is changed?should i whip more?how long?tnx

  • Hi ....I love your website using all natural ingredients to make beautiful beauty products. Do you possibly have any advice on the best DIY face cream for mature , dehydrated, prone to acne and sensitive skin please. Hope you can help me in this department, I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

  • Hi Eve! You have a great blog! What is a good substitution for mango butter in this recipe?

    Thanks on advance!

    • Hi Tori! avocado butter or shea butter could be used as the substitution but it will change the constitution of the recipe.
