My Story

My Mission

In 2010, I launched this blog and embarked on a journey to empower women to ditch the commercial beauty products’ full of chemicals and share how to make DIY organic beauty recipes at home towards a healthier lifestyle.
I will be revealing some fabulous homemade organic beauty products recipes that have been created, tried, and tested at home (on humans!).
And let me tell you, once you hop onto the homemade organic beauty bandwagon, there’s no turning back!Homemade face & body creams, body butter, lip balms, cleansers, natural perfumes & makeup won’t be a secret to you anymore. And I will do my best to make them easy and fun…oh and yes, it will save you a TON of money in the process!

Why Go Organic & Homemade DIY Beauty?

ORGANIC = Grown or made without the use of chemicals like pesticides, insecticides or fungicides

BEAUTY= Attractive, healthy, I mean… beauty inside out!

RECIPES = Easy and homemade right in my kitchen

By whipping up your own natural beauty products, you are making a statement that you do not want to support dangerous commercial beauty products filled with chemicals that are linked to cancer, hormone disruptions, and other health problems…

My favorite expression: “Be the change you want to see in the world!”

A wake-up call

In 2009, I lost my beloved grandmother “Mamie” to cancer. It was the first time I lost someone really close to me that I deeply felt connected with. She was this strong-minded yet calm, cheerful woman that exulted kindness. She taught me how to ride a bike and was the one who always fired up my imagination as a child by telling me made up stories, one including a tale with an adventurous flea with tennis shoes…!

Her loss was a wake-up call for me. After grieving, I started doing some research on the cause of breast cancer and cancer in general.

I researched the ingredients in my daily commercial beauty products and was baffled that I could not understand their meaning. While looking at each ingredient on the website and database of Skin Deep, I was shocked to learn about the harmful effects these chemicals have on our health, as well as the lack of studies and research available on some ingredients.

I had used the Dove deodorant and soap for years and now realized how dangerous the ingredients were for my health, especially since I was using them daily. Over the years, I also developed an intolerance to commercial synthetic perfumes.

Dangerous Commercial Beauty Ingredients To Avoid

  • Methyl, ethyl, propyl, benzyl and butyl parabens:  hormone disrupter, linked to breast cancer
  • Aluminum chloralhydrate, aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly:  linked to breast cancer
  • Propylene Glycol: delayed allergic reactions, possible kidney and liver damage
  • BHT: irritation, developmental/reproductive toxicity, linked to cancer
  • Fragrance (pretty much in all commercial beauty products unless fragrance-free!) : skin irritation, harmful to the environment, allergies and organ system toxicity

Why would our society allow commercial companies to put a product in the market that is dangerous or without researching or knowing its long term effects on our health?

The answer is simple: short term profit vs long term health.

Is buying natural beauty products the solution?

I then started buying organic certified products but found them to be too costly and was convinced that there should be an easier and simpler solution. Unfortunately, a lot of the certified organic beauty products or so-called natural products still use fragrances and chemical preservatives so they can stay on the shelves for years. And please don’t get me started on the misleading marketing labels or certifications that claim to be “natural”. This is when I finally decided to make the switch and started crafting organic beauty products at home. And to be honest, nothing is more fulfilling than having total control and using high-quality organic and fair trade ingredients while making your own customized DIY beauty skincare product!

How did I learn about DIY Beauty?

I am self-taught, read many books, and spend countless hours in the kitchen experimenting with brand new homemade recipes.

Disclaimer: All my recipes are unique and are tested on humans!

In 2016, I studied Aromatherapy and became certified by the School of Natural Health Sciences.

  • Hi Eve,

Your first recipe with only 2 ingredients in your book, you use safflower oil. I would like to know if I can replace it with Brazil Nut Oil. I use to buy Tree Hut Shea Body Butter called Brazilian Nut. They no longer make this one.
The Shea butter was pretty thick. Is there anything else you would recommend or change to make this recipe similar to Tree Hut?

  • Hi Eve,

Love your had lotion recipe. I make it for myself and sister all the time. I wondering if I could use rose water when I’m unable to get my hands on rose hydrosol?

    • Great to learn a lot about how you all started your journey am quite impressed with how far you have come and also to be able to learn from you as well is amazing. Thanks so much and keep doing the good work

  • I can’t seem to find Grape Seed Extract on any website including Amazons. I can find Grape seed oil but not extract and I can find grape seed in pill form. I can also find grapefruit seed extract. I am a little confused. In your book you list grapefruit seed extract as one of your top preservatives but in the recipes for both tooth paste and rose face cream you say to use grape seed extract.

Would really like a clarification and where to buy.

  • Hello ....I wanted to know what can I substitute Grapeefruit seed extract with and more recipes with camelia seed oil
    Thank you

  • I was curious if your DIY makeup remover would work on waterproof mascara? I currently use miceller water for waterproof mascara. I'm not sure if miceller water is a safe/good option.

    • How do I wash off beeswax face cream?

I tried your beeswax face cream recipe and it came out beautifully. I read that it is hard to wash off wax from skin. I usually use honey to wash my face and would prefer not to use an oil to wash my face.

Is honey good enough to wash the beeswax cream off my face?

  • Hi Eve!
    This recipe:

    Ingredients
1 cup of organic 100% Aloe vera gel
1 capsule of vitamin e or 1 ml or roughly 1/4 tsp
5 drops of lavender essential oil or Chamomile essential oil optional

is this sufficient for a facial cleanser? I wear makeup every day, so I was curious your thoughts on facial cleansers for makeup wearers.

    I love your recipes!

    Thank you!

    Angela
