My homemade face cream anti aging is perfect for mature skin but also for any other type of skin if you are looking for wrinkle prevention. While we cannot completely erase the natural effect of aging, there are natural ways to prevent fine lines with DIY face creams. For example, in this homemade face cream, I used shea butter, jojoba oil, evening primrose oil and argan oil plus a blend of essential oils that are great to reduce wrinkles!

Including a good anti-aging face cream in your skincare regime is a must for every woman (and man!). After all, your skin is your biggest organ, it deserves to be taken good care of. But alas, all the “good” and somewhat natural or certified organic anti-aging face creams on the market cost at least a couple hundred bucks—not very budget-friendly for regular use to say the least.

That’s where my homemade anti-aging face cream with essential oils comes in! Instead of splurging on chemical-based creams, make your own DIY face cream for anti-aging with 100% pure and natural ingredients.

Read on to find out how to make your very own homemade face cream anti-aging.

Homemade Face Cream Anti Aging

Homemade face cream anti-aging – key ingredients

  • Shea butter|

Extracted from the nut of the Shea tree native in West Africa, shea butter’s use as a therapeutic lotion dates back to Cleopatra’s Egypt. The fatty acid and vitamins in it help soothe and soften skin while its high concentration of antioxidants helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Argan oil

Argan oil, rich in vitamin E and omega fatty acids, helps maintain the skin’s elasticity. Produced from the kernels of the argan tree common in Morocco, it helps strengthen skin tissues, thus preventing wrinkles.

  • Jojoba oil

Derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant, a shrub native to American Southwest and neighboring Mexico, jojoba oil contains high levels of antioxidants and nutrients. It’s also an excellent moisturizer and has been shown to slow down signs of aging, and even reversing it in some cases.

  • Evening primrose oil

Produced from the evening primrose plant native to North America, evening primrose oil is the perfect supplement for mature skin. Highly precious, it contains Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and has been shown to increase skin tightening and preventing wrinkles.

  • Rose damas flower powder

Rose damas flower powder, produced from the Rosa Damascena (a rose hybrid flower), is a powerful ingredient for reversing the signs of mature skin. According to a research, plant cells from the flower can provide an anti-wrinkle effect clinically proven by a decrease of the surface of wrinkles at crow’s feet by 22% in 28 days! Again, I’m using Aroma Zone’s brand of rose damas flower powder in my recipe. It also gives a natural soft pale pink color to my homemade face cream. Don’t overdo it though as it could make your cream grainy!  You can also find rose powder on amazon here.

Alternative to rose damas flower powder: cranberry powder!

  • Cranberry powder

A concentrate produced from mature cranberries, cranberry powder contains high levels of vitamins A and C which help boost collagen production in the skin. It also boasts powerful anti-aging benefits, as it helps fight free radicals responsible for those pesky wrinkles. I especially love this brand of cranberry powder and use it in my recipe. It gives a nice natural pink color to the face cream.

Carrier Oil Substitution

Please note that changing any of the carrier oils mentioned in the recipe will most likely change the texture and final results of the face cream. But if you must, jojoba oil or argan oil can be substituted by camellia seed oil or rosehip oil. While they do have slightly different properties (more on that below), they still make for good choices in a homemade anti-aging face cream.

Rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, the composition of the camellia seed oil is very similar to that of jojoba oil. With a silky texture and a nutty, pleasant aroma, camellia oil quickly penetrates to the deepest layers of skin and therefore has amazing moisture-retaining abilities.

Rosehip oil has a thin, almost dry texture so it doesn’t feel as greasy as some other oils. It has countless skin benefits, the most notable of which are tissue and cell regeneration.

Essential oil blend for a DIY anti-aging face cream

While essential oil cannot eliminate wrinkles completely, they can still help with reducing their appearance by help enhance skin elasticity and cell regeneration. Here are some of the best essential oils to use to reduce the appearance of wrinkles:

  • Frankincense essential oil

Prepared from the hardened gum resins of the Boswellia trees, Frankinscence essential oil is often dubbed “liquid gold” because of the myriad of benefits that it has for skin. It naturally tightens facial skin, while strengthening and improving its elasticity. Some studies have even shown it to possess tissue remodeling properties!

  • Rose otto essential oil

Rose otto essential oil, or rose oil as it’s commonly called, is sourced from the Rosa damascena plant. It’s known to have healing properties and helps stimulate cell growth and regenerate tissues. Therefore, it’s an excellent supplement to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Lavender essential oil

Distilled from the flower spikes of certain lavender species, lavender essential oil has been shown to help the skin in numerous ways, from brightening complexion to reducing acne and whatnot. According to a study, it also helps protect against oxidative stress in the brain and hence helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

  • Helichrysum essential oil

Extracted from the green parts of the Helichrysum italicum plant, this essential oil is known to be an effective ingredient in anti-aging skincare and is used to promote skin regeneration and a youthful complexion.

Rare flower extract that’s great for wrinkles

Edelweiss flower extract
Derived from the precious and rare edelweiss flower, edelweiss flower essential oil is used for its anti-aging and rejuvenating properties. Its high anti-oxidant content helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals and has a very soothing effect on the skin.

Homemade Face Cream Anti Aging

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles—ah, the dreaded omens that foretell of the aging process. While typically, they develop as a result of the skin becoming thinner and less elastic over time, there are also a lot of other factors that can cause them.

According to MedicalNewToday, some common factors behind aging are:

  • sun exposure
  • smoking
  • dehydration
  • some medications
  • environmental and genetic factors

How to use this homemade face cream anti-aging?

Use this face cream every day before going to bed for at least a month. You only need a small pea-size of the cream, massage your face and neck with it.

What is the best ingredient for a DIY face cream for anti-aging?

The answer to this may not be what you’d expect, but a healthy diet and lifestyle are actually the best ingredients to help keep those wrinkles at bay! Think beauty inside out 🙂

Make sure that your daily consumption consists of an adequate mix of whole foods. One of the simple diet rules I tried to stick to is to eat natural raw ingredients that form the color of the rainbow on a daily basis. For example, red: tomatoes, orange: sweet potatoes, yellow: chickpeas, green: kale, blue: blueberry, indigo: plums, violet: purple cabbage.

Including color in your diet can ensure you’re getting enough fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants.

And of course, maintaining an active lifestyle is a definite must. Yoga and meditation anyone?!

Talking about the specifics now, following are some of my favorite natural ingredients that are anti-aging and that you can add to your homemade face cream:

  • Green tea extract

Made from the plant Camellia sinensis, green tea extract contains a powerful antioxidant called EGCG that’s an incredibly potent anti-aging ingredient. It can be applied topically or even ingested.

  • Bee propolis

Bee propolis, or bee glue, is another one of nature’s little workers’ miracles. It’s filled with minerals such as magnesium , calcium and zinc that help combat signs of aging and rebuild damaged skin cells.
    I’ve created this amazing

  • Vitamin E

Most commonly found in vegetable oils, vitamin E is one of the best anti-aging agents out there. It can block free radicals and helps replenish natural oils, consequently slowing down the aging process.

  • Vitamin C

Found in citrus fruits, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. It neutralizes the free radicals responsible for premature aging and boosts collagen production in the skin.

Which other carrier oils have anti-wrinkle properties?

Apart from the common oils that I am using in this recipe (jojoba, primrose evening oil, argan oil), there are other rare carrier oils as well that possess exceptional anti-skin aging benefits:

  • Marula oil

Extracted from the nuts of the fruits from the Marula trees, marula oil is a lightweight, effective moisturizer and is very beneficial for fighting the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil

Coming from the prickly pear fruit, the prickly pear seed oil is packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids that help prevent premature wrinkle formation, reduces the appearance of fine lines, and brighten dark under-eye circles.

  • Pomegranate Seed Oil

derived from pomegranates, the high antioxidant content of this essential oil makes it the perfect supplement to help prevent damage caused by free radicals that cause the skin to thicken and wrinkle.
