DIY beauty books can be a great source of both information and inspiration. When I started on my journey to making my own beauty products, I struggled to find good recipes online. Some wear unclear, other were full of nasty chemicals or animal products… I got pretty frustrated with failed recipes that were getting me nowhere!

So I decided to look for DIY beauty books on Amazon in the hope that it would give me some insights I could not find online.

Plus I must admit that I love flipping through the pages of a beautiful DIY beauty paper book, snuggled in my sofa with a cup of tea nearby and of course my kitties to keep me company!

A DIY beauty book is something that you can easily turn to again and again, and beauty books also make a great gift if you are interested in greening your beauty routine, but may not take the time to do online research.

So many of you have mentioned that they would prefer a paper book to an ebook for these reasons, so here it is my favorite top 5 DIY beauty books that should help to give you a little patience while my own natural beauty book gets published.

TOP 5 DIY beauty books

1/ Green Beauty Recipes by Julie Gabriel

This comprehensive book contains all the must-have information for a green beauty routine from head to toe!

This book contains more than 200 recipes and step-by-step techniques used by the author, holistic nutritionist Julie Gabriel .

What I loved about this book:

The author has a holistic nutrition background, so the book is packed with the nutrient information for ingredients and the way that these nutrients boost your skin and hair health. I also enjoyed the use of essential oils and the best ways to incorporate them into beauty products.

What I’d like didn’t love about this book:

Overall, this is a great purchase, but not all of the recipes have photos of the end products, so you can’t always be sure of what you are going to get! Some of the measurements for recipe ingredients also seemed to be missing, which would make it difficult for absolute beginners who are not as comfortable formulating recipes based on instinct.

2/ Organic Beauty Care Recipes by Stephanie Tourles

This book offers a great range of recipes from very basic through more complex formulas.

What I loved about this book:

DIY beauty books

In addition to recipes, the author provides quick tips and tricks – like how and where to apply plain oils for the most advantageous effect. The author also does a great job of breaking down the use and benefits of each ingredient so that you can start to think about original combinations.

What I didn’t love about this book:

Some of the recipes are complex and require many ingredients, which can make them difficult for those who are just starting out.

3/ 100 Organic Skin Care Recipes by Jessica Reis

This is a nicely curated set of recipes that will help anyone implement a full green routine.

What I loved about this book:

The author has created easy-to-make and replicate recipes that ensure success for people just learning to craft DIY beauty products. Most of her formulations are light and fast-absorbing, which also makes them more palatable to individuals just switching over to green beauty.

What I didn’t love about this book:

My one complaint about this DIY beauty book is that there are not as many recipes for face, and especially eye, DIY products.

4/ 200 Tips, Techniques, and Recipes for Natural Beauty by Shannon Buck

DIY beauty booksThis book provides a great deep dive into DIY beauty, with a focus on the ingredients and how to best use them.

What I loved about this book:

This book provides a wealth of information when it comes to DIY beauty ingredients and how to use them. This makes it ideal for people who are just starting out and really want to increase their knowledge base, but don’t necessarily want to get bogged down with too many complex recipes.

What I didn’t love about this book:

This is an ideal book for beginners, but it is lighter on full recipes, so if you’re looking to create a ton of DIY products, then this isn’t for you.

5/ Homemade Organic Skin & Body Care by Carmen Reeves

This book provides a great mixture of recipes and DIY beauty tips with an emphasis on ethically sourced and produced ingredients.

What I loved about this book:

DIY beauty books

This book offers a wide breadth of recipes, including several lotions, which often get left out of DIY beauty books. I also enjoyed the emphasis on the sourcing of the ingredients – even so-called green ingredients need to be minded and where you purchase them from matters!

What I didn’t love about this book:

This book really provides and overview of green beauty how’s and why’s, but it is not an exhaustive recipes tome.
