Honey Lip Gloss Recipe Ingredients

Organic liquid honey is made by bees, of course! There are a number of different kinds of honey but I recommend the liquid honey because it is easier to blend in a DIY lip gloss. You can experiment with different kinds and shades of honey until you find one that produces the look and feel that you love. When choosing honey, make sure that honey is the only ingredient on the label and that is certified organic.

Honey is a natural humectant, which means that it traps moisture close to the skin and attracts more moisture to it. This makes it very hydrating for your lips. It is also anti-inflammatory and naturally anti-microbial.

Cocoa butter is a rich, nut butter made from cocoa beans. Despite its heavy texture, it absorbs rather well into the skin. It has a high fatty acid profile, which allows it to help smooth the skin and reduce any flakiness of the lips. It is also rich in the antioxidant vitamin E, which helps it to work as an anti-aging agent. As with all natural ingredients, make sure that the one you choose is 100% cocoa butter!

Castor seed oil is a vegetable oil made from castor seeds. It has a smooth, slippery texture and a high amount of shine, making it a natural replacement for petrolatum, which is often used to achieve the ‘gloss’ effect in conventional products. What I love about castor oil is that it is anti-inflammatory, promotes wound healing and also improves circulation to the area that is applied to – all good things for the lips! Castor seed oil is sometimes blended with other vegetable oils, so make sure to buy one that is a pure formula.

Natural Emulsifier

Cera Alba beeswax is a purified beeswax that comes from the bees’ honeycomb. It lends a silky texture to this liquid lip gloss recipe and also helps to provide a protective (and shiny!) barrier on the lips that locks in moisture.

The ingredients in this honey lip gloss recipe contain a silky blend of all-natural ingredients provides a nutrient-rich and slightly sweet tasting lip gloss that your lips will love!

Step by step Tutorial DIY honey lip gloss

Step 1

Melt the cocoa butter, castor oil, and beeswax together in a double boiler or an aluminum bowl inside a pan filled with warm water on low to medium heat.

Step 2

Once melted add the liquid honey and mix well for a few minutes until it is foamy. You want the honey well blended with the wax, butter, and oil. You don’t want to have the honey at the bottom of the bowl or it will separate later.

Add the essential oils if desired. Mix well for a few seconds.

Step 4

Take the bowl off the heat (make sure you use heat proof gloves not to burn yourself) and pour immediately into a 1 oz nice container before it starts to solidify.

Step 5

Let cool for 1 hour and the honey lip gloss will solidify but will be soft enough to be applied with your (clean) finger on your lips.

A newbie to your site and making my own products. I need to find a moisturizing body lotion that I can wear everyday as winter weather wrecks havoc on my skin. What lotion would be best to make, and use day or night.

I made this lip gloss with shea butter rather than cocoa butter since that is what I have. It is super! Very moisturizing and stays on even when I ate. thank you.
